By Cambridge Systematics and Economic Development Research Group, for the American Public Transportation Association, 1999 What is the role of Public Transportation in the US economy? How does that differ from its local economic benefits? To clarify these issues and provide guidance for decision-makers, the American Public Transportation Association hired Cambridge Systematics and Economic Development Research Group to develop a model approach and guidebook. The report covers a wide variety of factors including roles of public transportation in reducing highway congestion, fuel use and parking needs, as well as roles of public transportation in supporting construction, manufacturing and operations jobs. Impacts on business activity, personal income and public taxes, using the REMI economic model, are also discussed. View or download the Full Report from the APTA web site Economic Impact Flowchart
