The Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission commissioned and directed a study of the economic impact of public use airports in the state. The study provided a comprehensive analysis of economic impacts associated with each airport in the state, and all airports combined (excluding the Boston area's Logan Airport and Hanscom Field, which are under the jurisdiction of Massport).

The study was conducted by a technical team consisting of Simat, Helliesen & Eichner, Inc. (SH&E) and Economic Development Research Group, Inc., with support from The Karol Group, Inc., Schlesinger & Associates and students of the Bridgewater State College Department of Aviation.
