Brian Baird Alstadt

(Economic Analyst) - Economic and Transportation Modeling

alstadt.jpgBrian Alstadt is an economic consultant at Economic Development Research Group. His work centers on topics in economic geography, including economic impacts of transportation investment, transportation finance, regional development, trade, and policy analysis.

Prior to joining EDR Group, Mr. Alstadt worked at the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis (CCEA) in Storrs, CT as a research assistant. At CCEA, Brian performed policy analysis and economic forecasting for public and private clients, and projects ranged from characterizing health care policies to assessing the viability of land value taxation. Brian holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Connecticut – one in Economics and the other in Transportation Engineering.

His research and consulting experience includes:

  • Economic impact modeling for Michigan DOT's 5-year highway investment plan, including analysis of the implications of tradeoffs between various maintenance and capacity enhancement strategies.
  • Analysis of economic impact of airports in Oregon.
  • Client consulting, Transportation Economic Development Impact System.
  • Assessing the economic impact of the redevelopment of a former wire mill factory in Georgetown, CT for Georgetown Land Development Corporation.
  • Characterizing the distribution of tax burdens in Connecticut for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
  • Predicting the effects of road pricing policies for the Connecticut Cooperative Highway Research Project.

His presentations range from the Annual Conference of the Transportation Research Board (topic: economic development returns from transportation investment) to the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (topic: interactions between transportation and land use) and the OECD Roundtable on Transportation Plannind and Economic Assessment Tools.
